CPCS A21 Wheeled Loading Shovel

What is the course?

The CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) A21 Wheeled Loading Shovel course is designed to provide operatives with the theoretical knowledge and practical training needed to safely and effectively operate a wheeled loading shovel. Training is provided using classroom and practical instruction to enable you to qualify for your construction industry recognised operator card.

Course Content

Our course provides the knowledge and practical training you need to ensure safe and effective operation of a wheeled loading shovel and covers:

  • Understanding of all pre-start and running checks for equipment
  • Understanding of shut down procedures for equipment
  • How to safely mount and dismount
  • How to place equipment into out of service condition
  • Appreciation of safety precautions relating to underground/overhead services
  • Configuration of wheeled loading shovel for both road travel and on-site work
  • Loading and unloading procedures, load integrity and security of operative and equipment
  • Understanding of excavation of different materials, volumes and loads, including creating stockpiles and ramps from different materials on an embankment

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

This CPCS A21 Wheeled Loading Shovel course is taught using a combination of practical tutorials and classroom discussion. Assessment is by both theory and practical tests.

Who Should Take This Course?

Our wheeled loading shovel course is suitable for those who have received no formal training on wheeled loading shovel operation. It is also suitable for existing operators looking for a course to refresh your skills and knowledge.

What Qualifications Will I Receive?

Following successful completion of this course, trainees receive certification from the CITB National Construction College. The CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is awarded once CPCS technical tests have been successfully completed.

Entry Requirements

If you would like to apply for this course you must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before your course date. You also need a good understanding of both written and spoken English.

What Can I Do Next?

Once you have completed the CPCS A21 Wheeled Loading Shovel course you can apply for the Competent Operator Card, Excavator 360 Tracked above 10 tonnes course, Dump Truck course and Excavator 180 Wheeled course.
