CPCS A31 Ride on Roller

What is the course?

The ride on roller course is aimed at novice candidates. It covers the skill set and theoretical knowledge need to operate a ride on roller.

Course Content

  • Pre-start procedures, checks during running of machinery and shut down mechanisms
  • Setting a roller for travel
  • Awareness of hazards on site
  • Recognising areas that are compacted/uncompacted
  • Procedures for compaction duties
  • Knowledge of out of service condition
  • Causes of roller instability
  • Safety procedures for unsupported edges
  • Loading and unloading on and off a transporter

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

The course is classroom based and is taught to candidates via both practical tests and theoretical discussion. Assessment is done by theory and practical examinations.

Who Should Take This Course?

This course is designed for novice operators who have had no previous formal instruction in operating a ride on roller.

What Qualification Will I Receive?

Once you have completed of the CPCS technical tests, you will receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card and the CITB National Construction College certification.

What Can I Do Next?

Upon completion of the course candidates may want to take assessment to gain a Level 2 NVQ/SVQ, which leads on to a Blue Competent Operator Card.

Entry requirements

You will need to have successfully completed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test in the last two years. You must also have a good knowledge of both written and spoken English.
