CPCS A40 Slinger Signaller

What is the course?

The Slinger/Signaller Course has been created to provide both practical and theoretical training for those individuals who are a slinger/signaller.

Course Content

  • How to establish the dimensions and weight of loads and how to communicate this correctly to crane operators
  • Selection of lifting tackle, and how to attach and detach safely and effectively
  • Use of clear and unambiguous signals to direct crane operators working with various weights and dimensions
  • Maintenance and storage of lifting accessories and determining serviceability of each

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

The course is taught with both theoretical discussion in the classroom and practical exercises. Assessment is made via practical and theory exams at the end of the course.

Who Should Take This Course?

The course is ideal for existing operators and also potential operators. It is available to those who have no formal instruction or training.

The course takes four days for people who have little to no existing experience, three days for semi experienced professionals and two days for experienced professionals. It is the perfect course to refresh your skills as an experienced operator.

There are subtypes of courses, specific to certain types of machinery:

  • A40A: All Types – All Duties
  • A40B: All Types – Static Duties
  • A40C: Knuckle Boom – Static Duties Only
  • A40D: Excavator only
  • A40E: Lift truck only

What Qualification Will I Receive?

If you are successful, at the end of the course you will receive the CITB National Construction College certificate. Once the CPCS Technical Tests are passed, you will receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Entry requirements

You will need to have successfully completed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test in the last two years. You must also have a good knowledge of both written and spoken English.

What Can I Do Next?

The course is perfect for individuals who want to find a way into the lifting industry. Once you have completed the course you may want to consider further courses in crawler cranes, tower cranes and crane supervision.
