CPCS A61 Appointed Person

What is the course?

This course will provide candidates with the knowledge and expertise to comprehend and understand the responsibility of the Appointed Person. It is aimed at supervisors and managers who are responsible for lifting operations.

  • Different types of cranes and related terminology
  • Documentation for cranes
  • The stability of cranes, safety devices and duty charts
  • Tower cranes
  • The role of appointed persons
  • Planning a lift
  • Observation, interpretation and application of sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of British Standard 7121

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

Candidates will be taught through a combination of classroom discussion and practical elements. Assessment is carried out via both practical and theory exams.

Who Should Take This Course?

The course is suitable for supervisors and managers with responsibility for planning and executing lifting operations.

What Qualification Will I Receive?

Upon successful completion of the course you will receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card. If you already hold the CPCS Code A40 Slinger/Signaller certification, you will also receive the CPCS Code A62 Crane Supervisor qualification.

Entry requirements

You should have experience of cranes and meet the British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes requirements.

You will need to have successfully completed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test in the last two years. You must also have a good knowledge of both written and spoken English.

What Can I Do Next?

Upon completion of the course applicants may want to get the Level 5 Appointed Persons NVQ/SVQ and after that a Blue Competent Operator Card.
